Mom Mary

About 17 years ago, the most beautiful woman in the world to me, my mother Mary, got breast cancer.

The cancer was found by early detection on a mammogram. She had a lumpectomy and her lymph nodes removed, along with the regular cancer treatments.

She is now a 17-year happy and strong survivor and a wonderful mother!

Her courage and ability to overcome is a great motivator for me and it helps to keep perspective on challenges or difficulties in my own life, usually making them seem insignificant and easily surmountable in comparison.

Cancer survivor & loving mother

Something About Mary

My mother has survived the utmost of tribulations, and always done so with a smile and a positive attitude. Over the years, in addition to breast cancer, she has gone through two open-heart surgeries for different valve replacements, and just this past year, a third heart valve replacement (thankfully no open heart this time). As if that was not enough, sprinkle a little diabetes in the mix to keep things interesting!

She is indeed a very strong and inspirational woman, who I am very proud to call my mom. Her and my father are the kindest, warmest, and most wonderful people I have ever known. I am very fortunate to have them for parents/call them my parents. She is indeed a very strong and inspirational woman, who I am very proud to call my mom. Mary is an artist, doing watercolor paintings, hand marbled paper, and even taught calligraphy. She loves her flowers and her garden and does some bird watching as well. I love you mom.

My Inspiration

Experiencing my mother’s medical challenges and hardships was a driving influence in becoming a paramedic and it has reinforced my desire to continue in medicine to become a physician, but it also has given me an appreciation for life and a realization that it should not be taken for granted. Spending time with family and loved ones is something that should be cherished and done as often as possible.
